Sitting here in the sunshine in late March has held me quietly in a warm space where I can reflect on my coaching challenges. Which thread will I share in this blog? Who will read this anyway?
I love my work, I have a passion, I step into a place of evolution as my profession is developing, transforming and shaping the standards for newer coaches. I always want to stay on top and be the very best that I can be but often I don't agree with what is evolving within myself.
A wonderful client spoke of her staff as those with passion and those who worked only for their pay packet.
How can my passion serve the other needs that I have? How will my clients remember the work that has happened? When they don't show for a session? When they don't return an e-mail?
Where does my mind take me? How mindful am I?
I believe in standards for coaches. I believe in meeting these standards but have my own doubts as I sit in the sunshine. Does me passion fill my pay packet? So many coaches share this dilemma?
I leave you with the question.
At the end of the day we are all humans. We all have similar self- doubtsand inner work to do.
How many can see the sunlight in our work? How often do we stop to reflect on our deepest fears?
Do we ignore shadows? Do we celebrate the golden moments?
I so love a moment with my Earl Grey Tea in the sunshine, reflecting and self supervising. Life is full of other satisfactions.

Is it adequate to write up your coaching notes after a session, mentioning some of your thoughts and feelings about the session, client and outcomes. What is reflective practice when it is in association with working towards accreditation from a Professional Body? Can you be so self aware that you recognise when you have handled a situation badly or admit that you could have done much better?
Most professional coaches will be concientious enough to have a system in place whereby they can refresh and prepare for the next session with their client. Is that however enough?
Having taken part in a wonderful Refective Practice group I am now of the opinion that our self reflections are so much more powerful when we include some creative activity. In this group we wrote.
Free writing brought out a surprisingly meaningful content for all the coaches who attended. I loved the spontaneous freedom that this gave me.
What is your coaching signature?
Tell me about your " Coaching Presence" How do you feel about being supervised in a reflective and supportive space?

When a coach thinks about supervision I wonder what indeed they consider first? Is it the cost and whether they are earning enough from coaching to support regular sessions?
Perhaps the consideration is about how a coach can develop a serious professional standing and the realisation that stakeholders will be asking for proof of supervision.
I remember one of my first calls to a supervisor was to help me think through an ethical dilemma. The wisdom of a more experienced coach was what I required in that particular session.
If you would like to engage in seeking out a supervisor please ask questions and send me your thoughts.
