Choosing a Supervisor

What each supervisor brings to the supervision relationship depends on their background and how they work and what they have to offer. I encourage you to read as many articles and research supervisors' backgrounds before engaging them.

How is supervision conducted?
Many schools train supervisors to use a coaching approach which is non- directive. Is your supervisor able to teach and direct you? Will there be sharing of resources or will you be expected to research topics and learn purely by experience?
Look closely at the speciality of any particular supervisor and check as to whether they have trained and worked as a professional coach?

Creative Style using images, role play, metaphor, drawing or cards

When choosing your Supervisor do consider the follow questions.

Do I want someone from the same training background to mine?

Do I want a supervisor with a similar model of coaching to mine?

What are my learning challenges?

Is there a specific intervention or model of coaching I want to develop?

What type of sessions will best serve my learning style and my coaching style?

Phone, group, face to face.....
