You will find that the price range for Supervision is as wide as it is for Coaching. Most qualified Supervisors will charge over £100 per session whether or not they are working face to face with you. I believe that cost should not be prohibitory to the huge advantages a supervisor can offer.
Supervisors often charge you what you would charge as a coach plus 20%.
Look carefully at what is being offered and how well this will serve you. Are there any hidden charges for time taken on report writing or e-mail correspondance? Do consider the stage you are at in your coaching career and how many hours of Supervision you require to fill the criteria for accreditation.
You may be able to combine one to one supervision along with group supervision .This is permitted under the new Accreitation System of the Association for Coaching.
Group Supervision is open to those who want an economical way of experiencing professional supervision with the added support of peers. Peer Supervision is also acceptable but do check at what level of mastery you should be at.
Required Hours
Please be aware that as you enter training or studying to become a coach that there may be a mentor or supervisor offered as part of your training. However as you become established with a client base the Professional Coaching Bodies require you to have Supervision in a ratio to your coaching hours. This has become standard practice and is an absolute requirement for all official accreditation processes. Coach Accreditation may have been part of your Training Graduation but do check to make sure your provider is an approved course by the International Coach Federation, Association for Coaching or the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
Awarding bodies have set a ratio between your coaching hours and the required number of hours of supervision. Please see guidelines.
To achieve the required levels for Accreditation you must log all your coaching hours, continual professional development hours and hours of supervision. Keeping careful notes of your supervision sessions is proof of your learning. Your supervisor must also complete a report that stipulates the key skills that you have developed, learning points and how you see your professional development continuing.
